Music Video research brief

Posted by samos at 02:21
During the summer our task was to watch a number of Music Videos, in which would help inspire us to produce our own, the idea was to watch videos similar to the genre of our own/ videos which we enjoyed and felt we could use aspects to improve & incorporate into our project.

As seen previously, Sam chose to do research on the Punk/rock theme, which particularly highlights the performace (band) aspect of our music video. As Punk/Rock is genuinely not my favourite style of music, i chose to look at the narrative side of our video, and viewed 'Indie' music videos, produced by bands including; Kasabian & Red Hot Chili Peppers. Also watched a Mayday Parade Video, as it was worth noting the style of their videos, considering we're actually using one of their songs..

The way in which i've analysed the music videos, is screen shotting, preferably my favourite shots/edits, and to note the use of narrative in the music video.

Who will be in your production?

.Samuel Austin
.Jack Pollock
.Emma Leigh Smith
.Liam Chadwick
.Matt Green
.Richie Screen
.Steve Ray

Why have you chosen them? What will they bring to your project?

.Excluding Emma & myself, all the above are able to play an instrument, it made syncing with the song that much easier. Also the chosen members fit the part to reflect the portrayal of Mayday Parade, as a band. Emma on the other hand, playing as the narrative, it was important to have a good looking protagonist, with a care-free attitude; which is predominantly shown in her clothing & hair style.

What media skills do you hope to learn as a result of undertaking your project?

.The skills which I hope to take away from the project are as following. I hope to become more aware about choices and decisions made by directors when I watch music video, as I have done myself in this experience. I want to be more confident went tackling editing on the Macs; software is including IMovie & Photoshop and Garage Band. A key skill I wish to have is the knowledge & understanding of the variety of camera shots, in which I will be able to incorporate into my project.

When will you be undertaking your filming?

.Sam & I met during the summer and created a storyboard, and organised where & when filming would take place, the filming will be undertaken throughout September and October and may run into November, but by November we hope to be editing the product

Where will you be doing the majority of your filming?

.We aim to do most of our filming locally, preferably on the Royal Beach for the majority of our narrative shots. We also plan to film our band (performance) shots in an abandoned house which we’ve been given permission to film in by the owner. Brean down beach is another spot in which we hope to film the narrative aspect of our video, with entails the Indie genre to our product.

Which specific locations will you be hoping to use?

.Bristol – (Clifton)
.Brean - Beach
.Portbury - Abandoned house
.Portishead – Royal Beach
